Cape and Islands United Way Awards Cape Cod Child Development $32,000 Grant for Healthy Living initiative
02/24/2010
This month Cape Cod Child Development received a grant of $32,000 from the Cape and Islands United Way in support of its “Making Healthy Living Affordable” initiative to teach children and families about the importance of diet, exercise and healthy habits.
“This particular initiative is based on the three underlying principles of nutrition, physical activity and healthy family lifestyle,” stated Executive Director, Mary Pat Messmer. “We are grateful to the United Way for their continued support of Cape Cod Child Development, particularly our efforts to support families in making healthy choices.
The grant from the United Way will offer families with children enrolled in Cape Cod Child Development’s core programs, including School-Age Childcare, Preschool/Head Start, Early Intervention, Families United Network at the Family Childcare, opportunities to participate in music and dance, healthy family cooking, shopping on a budget and other activities that promote exercise, diet and healthy habits.
“Healthy choices can fall to the wayside when a family is trying to meet basic needs,” stated Ms. Messmer. “This grant will help us work directly with parents to support healthy habits and foster self-esteem, self-discipline, healthy bodies and long-term wellbeing for their entire family.”
